Medicine, at its best, is built on relationships, trust, and a long-term commitment to health.
About Dr. Daniel Placik
Dr. Placik grew up watching medicine practiced in a way that is increasingly rare today—through long-term relationships between a physician and the patients they serve. His father immigrated to the United States from Croatia after surviving the hardships of World War II and later built a private medical practice where he cared for patients in both primary care and cardiology. Many of his patients remained under his care for decades, reinforcing the importance of continuity, trust, and physician–patient relationships that develop over a lifetime.
Dr. Placik’s mother immigrated from Guadalajara, Mexico in pursuit of greater opportunities. She emphasized education, family, and the importance of nutrition long before wellness became a mainstream focus. Home-cooked meals built around whole foods and minimally processed ingredients were central to family life and helped shape Dr. Placik’s lifelong interest in preventive health and lifestyle medicine.
Dr. Placik grew up in Los Angeles and attended Beverly Hills High School before continuing his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Irvine where he studied Public Health. He completed medical training at the well-established Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, where physicians placed strong emphasis on comprehensive history-taking and hands-on clinical care, often relying less on technology and more on careful observation and hands-on patient care.
He completed his clinical medical training in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he participated in the medical response to the historic Las Vegas mass shooting and cared for a wide spectrum of medical conditions. He later completed his Family Medicine residency training in rural Arizona, where he gained broad experience managing various severe, complicated acute and chronic conditions.
During residency he also completed the Integrative Medicine in Residency program through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, which focuses on combining evidence-based medicine with lifestyle and integrative approaches to health.
After residency, Dr. Placik returned to Los Angeles and eventually settled in the South Bay. His clinical interests increasingly centered on prevention, metabolic health, and longevity science. He later became board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine and completed Blue Zones certification, expanding his training in the lifestyle and environmental factors associated with long, healthy lives.
Today, Dr. Placik focuses on helping patients build long-term health through prevention, thoughtful lifestyle strategies, and a personalized physician–patient partnership designed to support vitality and independence over decades.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children and staying active through both daily movement and structured exercise that includes cardiovascular training and strength training. He also enjoys reading, playing basketball, visiting local farmers’ markets, spending time at the beach, and sharing meals centered around whole foods with friends and family.
My goal as a physician is not simply to treat illness when it appears, but to help patients live longer, healthier, and more meaningful lives.
By focusing on prevention, lifestyle, and early health screening, we can build a foundation for lifelong health and vitality.
